SCOTUS Decision…

One week ago the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby in the Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. Corporation case. In their decision they stated “as applied to closely held corporations, the regulations promulgated by the Department of Health and Human Services requiring employers to provide their female employees with no cost access to contraception violate the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.” For us of the simple mind, that means that if the owners of where you work actually have a hand in the operations of the company, is a true believer in their religion and have any medical objections to the health coverage that ‘Obamacare’ states is mandatory, they can deny coverage because of those objections. In the case of Hobby Lobby, they object to giving no cost access to contraception. Specifically contraception that is known as being ‘abortion’-esque, such as ECP and IUDs.

Their ruling opened the doors to religious v. health care access, which I don’t think the justices knew they were doing. Let’s remember that they ruled that Obamacare was legal…All of it. That itself is another rants worth. There are many other religions that oppose Western medicine practices, and would be able to deny health care coverage based on their objections to those practices. But THAT is not the base for this rant. This rant is focused on the ‘Christians’ that rejoice that we have somehow gained a freedom.

I have a problem with Christians that will say that their God is omnipotent, but don’t have faith that he is. I have faith that my God has power, ultimate power, over everything. HIS power supersedes any man made medicine or contraption. The walls of Jericho, the furnace of Nebuchadnezzar, leprosy, not even the death itself can match or stop God’s power and will. The same is to be said for the birth controls, ECP and IUD. If God wants a woman to be pregnant, even if she using contraception, then she will become pregnant. That may sound crazy but I believe in an omnipotent God. His power is the ultimate power and no Supreme Court ruling can reinforce his unmatchable power.

So why cheer for something that inhibits so many people, that denies not just birth control but health control. This instance reminds me of the saying that goes “If you want to see God laugh, show Him your plans”. God has ultimate control and power. Plus a woman taking anything for her own personal reasons is none of my business and definitely shouldn’t be the business of her employer.
